January 14, 2021
Due to the continuing record number of daily new Covid-19 infections throughout the United States, and the uncertainties regarding state and college rules regarding future gatherings and events, we have decided to cancel plans to hold an abbreviated one day 2021 Trinity College International Firefighting Robot Contest.
Our best wishes and hopes for your health and safety. We look forward to communicating with you all regarding plans for 2022.
Dr. John Mertens
Professor of Engineering
For the 28th year, robotics teams from around the world have gathered at Trinity College to compete in the International Fire Fighting Home Robot Competition, which advances robotic technology and knowledge by using robots as an educational tool.
What makes Trinity’s robotics competition different from others is that only autonomous robots are invited—intelligent robots programmed to operate independently and to respond in a particular way to outside stimuli; no remote controls are involved. First, second, and third place prizes are awarded to teams in different divisions whose robots successfully navigate a maze to extinguish a lit candle. The winners are determined by the best combined score from the completion of three difficulty levels. Awards are also given for additional challenges such as the poster presentation,
a Robotics Olympiad Exam, most creative robot, and more. Click HERE for more information.
